Who We Are

Founded in 1991, Living Cities is an innovative philanthropic collaborative of 22 of the world’s largest foundations and financial institutions. Living Cities blends the collective financial resources of its members and deploys their collective knowledge and experience to improve the lives of low-income people and the cities where they live.
Living Cities supports efforts that simultaneously tackle issues of people, place and opportunity. We help to aggregate talent, knowledge and dollars, integrate leadership across multiple sectors, and drive private markets to work on behalf of low-income people. Fundamentally, Living Cities works to redirect public and private sector funding streams away from obsolete approaches to new, innovative solutions.
Living Cities is comprised of a board of directors, standing committees and staff.

The Living Cities Board of Directors is comprised of executives from the 22 foundations and financial institutions included in our membership.

Standing committees are made up of 80-plus staff members from our member organizations. Standing committees are charged with setting, owning and adapting a shared programmatic and learning agenda for Living Cities. Working with Living Cities staff, they also must insure that the investments made by the organization reflect the collective expression of the aspirations of the organization.
