Gulf Coast Initiative

The Gulf Coast Initiative is a further evolution of the Living Cities approach to improving the vitality of distressed areas in the United States. Our member institutions responded individually and generously to relief and rebuilding efforts, together investing over $180 million in the first year after Hurricane Katrina. We also recognized the advantages of investing together in the Gulf Coast, where the magnitude of the challenge was unprecedented and the groups and organizations requiring help were exceptionally burdened.
