Catalytic Convening

Catalytic Convening

overview

Public, philanthropic and private sector investment in energy efficiency has risen dramatically over the past few years. Yet, to date, coordination and alignment across agencies, jurisdictions, and sectors, has remained haphazard and inconsistent. This lack of alignment not only limits the ability of these investments to build on one another – creating synergy and scale – but also inhibits the creation of a real, robust, and comprehensive market for energy efficiency retrofits. On Tuesday, March 15th Living Cities and the MacArthur Foundation will bring together leaders at the forefront of efforts to bring our nation’s energy efficiency retrofit market to scale.

This working session will drive towards solutions with potential to yield significant environmental and economic impact by advancing the energy efficiency retrofit market for commercial and multifamily real estate. We will focus on areas most ripe for market acceleration and where there is significant momentum. These include the development of reliable and consistent data standards, the creation of financial products that incorporate robust energy efficiency measures and the significant role utility companies have to play in bringing these efforts to scale

Co-sponsored by Living Cities, a consortium of 22 of the world’s largest foundations and financial institutions working to revitalize America’s cities, and the MacArthur Foundation, one of the nation’s largest independent foundations, this meeting has been organized in collaboration with the White House Council on Environmental Quality and the Urban Land Institute. Invited participants are leaders in advancing energy conservation in the commercial and multifamily real estate markets and include senior federal officials and top executives from foundations, financial institutions, investment companies, real estate firms, utilities, energy service companies, and other private and nonprofit organizations.
