System support for land disposition/Title Insurance and Land Assembly Program
Detroit LISC is working with the city to revamp the land disposition process. Funds would be used to create an insurance pool that would both allow title companies to accept greater risk and help shorten the clearance and issuance process. Money would also help CDCs in many predevelopment activities, including environmental assessment and land acquisition.
Employer-based homeownership program
Companies like GM and Compuware are moving back to Detroit and are committed to redeveloping areas of the city. Sixteen new charter schools are also planned. These converging trends present LISC with an opportunity to increase homeownership in the city in partnership with employers and CDCs.
